Our Wedding | Bridesmaid Inspiration

9:00 AM

While I can't give away big secrets about the wedding, which is still just under a year away, I thought I'd spill on one little detail we've been planning. What can it hurt, right?

Well I've always been the kind of person that can't understand spending a lot of money, and I certainly don't like asking others to spend money on me. So when it came to bridesmaids dresses for the wedding it was like I hit a brick wall. I would never want to be asked to spend upwards of $500 on a bridesmaids dress that I only get to wear one day [because let's be honest, the vast majority of bridesmaids dresses are atrocious and I won't ever "hem them" to wear again] so I first tried to find a simple bridesmaids dress that was under $100. Since our bridesmaids dresses were going to be black, you'd think I could find something. Nope. $250 seemed to be the minimum. Do I try to find a style of dress in a department store and hope they have 6 of them in various sizes? Doubtful. Well then it hit me while I was perusing through that amazing creation known as Pinterest...

I am *in love* with this idea! I love the different tones and styles. Since our dresses are black, there won't be a range in tones, but the different necklines, styles, and hems will add the perfect touch to our laid lack and casual wedding. The icing on the cake is that my bridesmaids probably already have a short black dress somewhere in their closets! Or if they really want, they can go find a new one to wear but they can choose their own price. It all makes me feel so much better about asking these ladies to be in my wedding :]

It's so difficult not to spill the beans on every little detail of this wedding. Especially since I am having to plan things well in advance so I'm not overwhelmed this summer after graduation. But I know some family members and friends read my blog and I don't want to spoil the day 8 months in advance. It's seriously driving me nuts! But maybe I'll find little projects here and there that don't give much away that I can share with you. I'm in the process of working on our save the dates, but until then... Happy October!

  1. This was my plan for my wedding.  But then 2 out of 3 bridesmaids picked the same dress.  lol.  Luckily Bridesmaid #3 was the most laid back and said, I'll wear whatever! :)  They all still got different shoes which made it totally fun.
    I love this idea! :)

  3. I tried to do a wedding on a budget, and I guess I succeeded in some areas, and terribly failed in others, but all in all it was a great day, and my husband and I enjoyed it!

  4. first visit here and your blog is really nice so far!
this is the best thing to happen to bridesmaids since dyed matched shoes went out of style.
i actually opted out of being a bridesmaid a couple years ago because the bride's list of hideous things that i had to spend nearly $1000 on was too much.
cheers to little black dresses - they will look fab!
